Autologous Fat Transfer Process
Fat transfer or lipofilling is a popular method to sculpt the body with one’s fat. The first step is fat removal, which can be accomplished through liposuction mainly from the abdomen, hips or thighs. The process is undertaken under anaesthesia, and through minor cuts using cannulas, the fat is sucked out. The fat is then processed, purified, and transferred to smaller syringes for injections.

Depending on the augmented area, you can resume light activities after 2 to 3 days. But avoid high-impact exercises or strenuous activities until you get clearance from your doctor.
Stay well hydrated and eat a healthy diet. Rest and give your body time to recover. Return for follow-ups as scheduled. After three weeks to a month, the swelling diminishes greatly. However, it can take 3 to 6 months to see the final effects.
Risks Associated with Fat Grafting
Autologous fat transfer is generally a safe procedure when done by experienced and board-certified plastic surgeons. As it is a surgical procedure, it still carries some risks.

Fat needs blood supply to survive, and when too much fat is put into an area, fat necrosis is at risk. Some bleeding under the skin may lead to the formation of a hematoma that has to be evacuated.
Another dangerous risk is of fat embolism. When a piece of fat enters a blood vessel, it can cause blockage. With this, the usual risks are bleeding, infection, reaction to anaesthesia, change in skin sensation, and numbness.
Asymmetry and lumpiness are observed in some patients.
