During the procedure, the patient is administered anesthesia for patient comfort. After the nose surgery, patients have minimal pain for two to three days which is tolerable. The plastic surgeon will prescribe pain medication to alleviate the pain. thing is that fillers are temporary and have no long-term side effects.

Rhinoseptoplasty or septorhinoplasty is a nose surgery that not only corrects the external shape of the nose but also reshapes a deviated septum to eliminate problems such as breathing difficulty, snoring, or rhinitis. So this surgery results in an enhanced appearance and improved function.

In a closed rhinoplasty, no scars are visible as the incisions are inside the nose. In case of open rhinoplasty, the nose surgeons at Aesthetics Plus skillfully place the incisions in areas easily hidden or camouflaged within the natural curves of the nose. A very tiny incision is made on the columella, which fades with healing and is hardly visible.

There is a noticeable difference immediately after the nose correction surgery. In a week to 10 days, most of the swelling reduces. Around a month, we can see the changes once all bruising and swelling are gone. After rhinoplasty, it may take anywhere from 6 months to a year to see a well-defined tip and attractive nose shape.

In some cases, the bridge of the nose is depressed, whereas the rest of the nose is regular. In such cases, we perform an augmentation rhinoplasty. Augmentation involves the insertion of cartilage from the nose/ear or bone from the rib/hip or silicone implants.

Each of the materials has its pros and cons.

Silicone Implant:

A silicone implant is the easiest, gives excellent cosmetic results, and has no additional scar on the body from where we harvest the graft. The disadvantage is the chance of implant rejection.

Rejection is a process that can occur any time, weeks after the surgery or 30 years after the surgery. In such cases, the implant has to come out. This rejection is a complication any person undergoing an implant surgery must be ready to accept. The patient must take care post-operatively to treat an infection anywhere in the body with proper antibiotics to prevent infection of the implant.

Bone Graft:

It is usually harvested from the hip bone, but bone from the skull and elbow is also used. The advantage of a bone graft is that it is not a foreign material and is accepted by the body well. The disadvantage is that it requires an additional procedure to harvest the bone graft and leaves another scar.

Also, the fate of the bone graft is uncertain at times. For the bone to survive, it requires blood supply once put inside the nose, which may be unpredictable. Usually, we insert some extra bone to compensate for expected bone loss due to absorption. Usually, it takes around six months to settle down. In the case of a silicone implant failure, we prefer a bone or cartilage graft.

Cartilage Graft:

These are harvested from either the ear or nose septum most commonly. These are tied together to the required dimensions and inserted as a graft. This graft also has the advantage of not being a foreign material, but it requires an additional procedure to harvest it and, of course, the donor scar, though hidden.

The main problem with cartilage grafts is that they can warp or bend because of the natural curvature of the cartilage and its internal memory. Though care is taken and specific procedures are done to prevent warping, there is always a chance it may undergo distortion, which might require minor revisions later on.
